Dundee High School fully believes in the holistic development of the child, thus it offers a full extracurricular programme which intends to cater for the physical development of the student through sport, a sense of team spirit, a culturally creative awareness, and social skills through fun activities like the Fruit Festival, evening dances, Mr. and Miss DHS and other such activities.
This well-equipped and informative centre with its quiet atmosphere and background music is a haven for staff and learners alike. Research can be done on computers to help learners with projects.
COURSES, CAMPS, EXCURSIONS:
The school career of a learner is not complete until he/she has participated in one or other camp, course or excursion with the rest of the school. There are educational camps for grade nines and elevens in the berg each year and numerous camps and excursions of a cultural, spiritual and educational nature taken on by teachers who aim to broaden the pupil's horizons in various spheres.
The Dundee High School Choir plays an important part in the cultural activities of our school. They have proved most successful in numerous competitions and productions.
Debates are organised on a regular basis. There are also outside interschool competitions, e.g. the Rotary/Daily News Speech Competition, the Junior Rapportryers Debating Competition, and the E G Jansen-Redenaarskompetisie. All benefit from their experiences and the confidence one acquires from public speaking cannot be over-emphasised.
Each year a number of learners are chosen as prefects and the rest of the school will find them friendly and obliging. They extend the views of the Headmaster and staff, and assist in the discipline of the school.
Learners are given the opportunity to practise their talents in various productions staged during the year. In the past this has taken the form of either a full-scale musical, a candlelight theatre, an evening of one-act plays, a talent evening, or a musical evening with poetry. All participants are encouraged and learn to enjoy the confidence gained from "just taking part" or to help bring hidden talent to the fore! The Speech and Drama Festival is also held annually and learners from all grades are allowed to participate.
SCA (Students' Christian Association)
Christians in Action (Students' Christian Association) is an inter-denominational Christian Movement. It aims at bringing students together to associate and talk about their faith. It also involves fun and fellowship. All students at the school are welcome to attend the S C A meetings.
SRC (Students' Representative Council)
The SRC meets once a month to find solutions to issues which trouble the learners. The council is constituted of representative learners from each class. The President and Vice President of the council attend Governing Body (SGB) meetings and can take their concerns straight to SGB.
