|The onslaught of sudden cold weather has not slowed DHS down in the slightest. On Wednesday DHS travelled to Vryheid to play sport against Vryheid Landbou and on Saturday DHS hosted a very cold and wet sports day against Pongola. We would like to thank all the staff, coaches and managers involved for sacrificing time after school and on weekends to ensure our teams perform the best they can. Thank you also to the learners for your enthusiasm and dedication on the field, and to the parents who may provide a lot of motivation and encouragement behind the scenes. The results are as follows:
DHS vs Vryheid Landbou
Rugby: DHS vs Pongola
Our Rugby teams had a very successful afternoon as all the teams won their matches. U/14 42-0; U/15 19-5; 2nd 62-0 and the 1st team match was unfortunately stopped early due to misbehaviour but with the score of 38-0 to DHS.
The 2nd team played Vryheid Landbou’s 1st team and won 1-0 and the U/14A’s won 3-0. Well done girls!
The Netball girls enjoyed their afternoon as well, winning all of their matches. U/14 17-7; U/15A 14-7; U/15B 11-7; U/16A 10-5; 2nd team 15-5 and the 1st team 16-7. Congratulations girls - you have made us proud - keep up the great play!
The U/15 team played Pongola in very wet and muddy conditions. After a tight and competitive match, eventually the boys won 7-5, courtesy of a good follow-up try by Estian Coetzee. The 1st team racked up a score of 28-5 with a fantastic second half performance with individual brilliance from Snish Mpontshane who scored two tries.
BOYS’ HOCKEY TRIALS
Girls’ Hockey and Netball: Today, DHS is playing a home game against Ferrum and on Saturday DHS is hosting another home game against St Dominic’s Academy. We would like to encourage you to come and support your child and the school.
All matches were cancelled due to the rain and the consequent wet fields.
Congratulations to Werner van Staden, Sinabo Vilakazi (U/18), Wenzi Radebe, Andile Ntshangase and Larnell Nero (U/16) who all went through to the second round of the KZN Inland trials. Well done to Werner who made the Inland B team. He was also awarded a trophy for the most promising player when he played for the Northerns Mens’ A side in Pietermaritzburg over the weekend. Wenzi attended the final round of trials in Pietermaritzburg on Sunday and we are eagerly awaiting the results of these trials. Well done to all of you - you make us very proud! ARMDRUK
SCHOOL PLAY
Rehearsals are continuing and the excitement continues to build round the school. (I personally have had Lion King songs stuck in my head for weeks now!) Unfortunately, Fanelesibonge Ndebele’s name was accidentally left off the cast list previously printed and we would just like to mention that he has landed a main role and we extend our congratulations to him as well. HPM is a national company interested in guiding young learners towards a career choice that would be suitable for a specific individual. The tests administered to Grade 9s were specifically aimed at helping learners choose the best subject package for their needs and help guide them onto a career path. The tests were written free of charge at school on Thursday, 9 May. HPM also helps to identify learners with possible learning weaknesses and also presents classes to help learners to develop summaries and stimulate memory, and to increase their test and examination preparation skills. The company franchise for this area (Newcastle, Vryheid, Dundee and Ladysmith) is held by Dr Willie Koen and he can be reached at: firstname.lastname@example.org.
