On Friday 14 February 2014, Dundee High School's 1st and 2nd Teams travelled to Weston Agricultural College for a pre-season fixture. The 2nd XV kicked off the day's events and thumped Weston 31-7, followed by the 1st Team who were facing tougher and more physical opponents than their second team counterparts. It was a closely fought battle in the 1st half with Weston having slightly more possession and DHS conceding 3 penalties, but eventually Lindo Mchunu managed to score a classic eighth-man try off a scrum. Unfortunately Dundee also had the opportunity to convert 2 penalties but could not manage to do so in the end with one kick bouncing off the upright. This concluded the first half's proceedings at 9-5 in Weston's favour. For the first quarter of the 2nd half, Dundee continuously conceded penalties and the venomous kicking boot of Weston's fly-half kept the scoreboard ticking to 15 points to 5. Soon after Weston managed to break the Dundee line and scored a converted try which made the score 22-5. As the game got more broken it suited Dundee's backline, and they managed to pull back two brilliant tries scored by Makwande Mabaso and Snish Mpontshane. A positive start to the season where both coaches and players had learnt enough to continue their preparation for the 2014 season. Final score: Dundee 19, Weston 22.
