DHS was struck by the terrible tragedy of the sudden loss of Deon van Tonder. Many prayers are being said for Deon's family and friends, as this is a wound only God's love and comfort can heal. DHS misses Deon as a learner, a classmate, a friend and on the rugby field and memories of him will be held close to our hearts. - Psalm 147:3 "He heals the broken hearted and binds up their wounds." Bloodbank
On Tuesday, 20 May, the Bloodbank visited DHS. The Bloodbank representatives from DHS took great initiative in driving this cause into the hearts of DHS learners. The result was 152 learners pitched to donate, and 122 units were collected. Well done DHS! Rotary Exchange
DHS said farewell to Jules Alet on Wednesday, 21 May. Jules arrived from France, last year, with only a few words of English to help him get by, but he was able to deliver a fluent and beautiful speech in assembly before he left. It was amazing to see how much Jules accomplished during his year in SA. DHS would like to wish Jules a safe trip back to his family and friends! Poetry Tour
The Poetry Club visited Shakaland from 9-11 May. Congratulations to Anele Buthelezi, Mzilikazi Khumalo and Ayanda Duze who received Participation Certificates. Ayanda Duze, Mfundo Madida and Simethembile Sibisi were awarded Certificates of Excellence. Well done to all our young poets and a special thank you to Mrs Madondo for organising this inspiring and enlightening experience. Dundee High Rugby
On Saturday 24 April 2014, Dundee High School played their annual league fixture vs Vryheid High School. Ons O/14 seuns het goeie hardlooprugby ten toon gestel en Vryheid met 26 punte teenoor 19 geklop. Our U/15 boys also displayed an enterprising brand of rugby with fantastic offloads in the tackle that eventually led to them beating Vryheid 26-10. Ons O/16 rugby seuns het weer skoonskip gemaak en Vryheid baie oortuigend met 33 punte teenoor 0 getroef. Dundee High School's rugby future looks immensely promising. Hockey
Saturday proved to be a great day for hockey with our teams playing fantastic hockey. Our little u/14's had a tough game and unfortunately lost. The u16 A team continued their unbeaten streak by winning 1 - 0 and the u16B's did their coach proud by drawing 0-0. The second team, riddled with injuries and absent players, played brilliantly and managed to draw 0 - 0. The First team played a great game of running hockey that proved very exciting to watch, and came off the field victorious with a score of 1-0. Netball
The 2nd Boys' team had a tough game against larger, more experienced players, and unfortunately lost 0 - 1. The 1st team played a good game against their larger, more aggressive opponents. A very evenly matched game ended in a 1 -1 score line, which bodes well for the future of this very young 1st Boys' hockey team.
On the 24th of April 2014, Dundee High School played Netball against Vryheid High School. Our U/16A and U/15A Netball girls managed brilliant victories over the opposition. Well done to them. Our Netball girls played to the last minute. Congratulations to all the teams that made us proud. Looking forward to the last game. DHS vs Sarel Cilliers
