At the Financial AGM on 19 November 2015 the parents attending decided that school fees for 2016 must remain as they were for 2015 and have been kept at R9900 for the year or R900 pm (for 11 months). Please remember that the first instalment is due by 15 January 2016 (the end of the first week of school). Please note that this decision now places a lot of pressure on the financial situation of the school. The increases in certain expenses, like electricity and water, are beyond our control and this means that other areas may need to be cut to ensure that the income and expenses balance each other. The only way in which the budget requirements will be met is if all the parents make sure that their school fee obligations are met and paid on time.
I wish you all a Christ-filled Christmas and a blessed time with your families. Travel safely if you go away.
DHS KNITS TEDDIES FOR KIDDIES
A few months ago, Mrs H Raffenberg decided to start an initiative in aid of orphans in our area. So many children do not have the privilege of owning their own teddy bear or any toy for that matter. Her passion spread through the staffroom and it soon became a fun and quick way to spend an evening or afternoon and before long, we ran out of space to keep all the teddy bears. The teddy bear knitting fever even extended to close family and friends who started sending more and more bears to the school!!! The younger staff members and learners finally realised the beauty of knitting and spending much needed quality time with grandmothers who have a wealth of knowledge and skills waiting to be relayed to young minds. As the teddy bears are still rolling in, Mrs Raffenberg organised to have the teddies dropped off at Orphanages in our area. By doing something small, we were all able to contribute to a child receiving a very special teddy that was handmade with a lot of love and care. We urge you to become involved in this initiative next year as we anticipate it becoming much bigger each year!!! Every child deserves to feel loved.
DHS HIKING CLUB TACKLES THE DRAKENSBERG
On Saturday, 21 November 2015, the hiking club under the guidance of Mrs Raffenberg, went to the Central Drakensberg for a quick hike to celebrate the end of yet another successful year! The learners could see Cathkin Peak from their hiking trail and were able to have a swim in the fresh water pools that are fed by beautiful waterfalls. It is an amazing privilege to experience the beauty and splendour of our country’s nature with young and enthusiastic learners.
