DHS Matriculants enjoy an evening of glamour
On Thursday, September 29, our matriculants were able to show off their feathers in a very special manner! They arrived at Battlefields Lodge in various vehicles from fancy Audi’s and Mercedes’ to unusual trucks and four wheelers. The girls amazed us all with their stylish dresses and the boys were truly strutting their stuff in fancy suits. The teachers were flabbergasted by the transformation of these young learners into nothing less than fabulous young ladies and gentlemen.
The evening started off with the usual speeches by Mr Haschke and the head prefects, Trishen Pillay and Siphumelele Gumede. This was followed by a beautiful, unplanned scripture reading and prayer by Victor – who is very passionate about involving God in every proceeding. He was truly a blessing as we were all reminded of the power of God and that His presence was with us. Krushil Sewmangal and Chenique Odendaal were the MC’s for the evening and made sure that the proceedings ran as planned.
We would like to thank all the Gr 11 teachers who were involved in this absolutely glamorous evening, which was held off premises for the first time in many years. It was amazing to see how the learners reacted to an event that was just for them – away from a school setting – and many of them were seen enjoying themselves on the dance floor until well after 11pm thanks to great music from Jodi Mitchell.
We would also like to thank the staff from Battlefields for ensuring that everything ran smoothly. It was definitely a night to remember and a splendid way to see our beautiful ducklings turn into glorious swans as they are getting ready to enter the adult world.
DHS ART EXHIBITION RAISES R1600 FOR THE SPCA
In the first few weeks of September Mrs Carter and her matric art students held an art exhibition at Talana Museum in order to raise money for the SPCA. They managed to collect quite a substantial sum of money that was donated to help the needy animals in our area. Mrs Carter and her learners were absolutely thrilled at the tremendous support they have received from the general public and would like to thank each and every person for their generosity. We hope that this event will grow with every passing year.
