Dundee High School delivered an outstanding all-round sporting performance at the recent Orange Grove Sport Festival, hosted by Sarel Cilliers High School, with learners showcasing exceptional skill, discipline and sportsmanship across hockey, netball and chess.
The Boys First Team Hockey side produced a composed and determined campaign. They opened their account with goalless draws against Empangeni High School and Ladysmith High School before recording convincing victories over Vryheid High School (2–0) and Ferrum High School (1–0). The team advanced to the semi-finals, where they held their nerve to secure a win on penalty flicks. In a dramatic final against the host school, the match was again decided by penalty flicks, with Dundee High emerging victorious to claim the festival title.
Dundee High’s First Team Girls Hockey side also impressed with a series of disciplined performances. The team drew 0–0 against Escort High School and Ferrum High School, before registering a hard-fought 1–0 victory over Empangeni High School. Finishing second in their pool, the girls narrowly missed progression on goal difference, but demonstrated resilience and tactical maturity throughout the tournament.
On the netball courts, Dundee High’s First Team delivered dominant displays. They opened with an 8–3 victory over St Dominic’s Newcastle, with Zamaphanga Maphanga named Player of the Match. This was followed by a 9–4 win against Newcastle High School, where Ziyanda Thungo earned Player of the Match honours. The team then recorded an emphatic 14–0 victory over Harvest School, with Mandie Conradie recognised as Player of the Match. The final group fixture was unfortunately cancelled due to rain, but Dundee’s strong performances were evident.
The school’s chess players also enjoyed a rewarding day, with learners sharpening their skills, testing strategies and building strong team spirit in a competitive yet supportive environment.
This festival proved to be a celebration of youth sport and school pride, and Dundee High School can be proud of the way its learners represented the school with commitment, determination and class.
